In Ephesians 1:3 the Apostle Paul writes that the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has blessed us with ALL SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS in heavenly in Christ.
When did God bless us? Who has He blessed? What has He blessed us with? Where are these blessings? When may we receive the benefits? How? (I do not have all the answers but these are some good questions to think about.)
In God blessing us (who is us?), it is implied there was a prior time when we were not blessed of God. Now that we have been, what difference should be seen in our lives?
The word bless means to empower. Power to do what? Whatever the blessing is that’s what. It is important to discover what the blessings are or we will not know the life change God intends for us to experience.
There is a song which says “Count your blessings. Count them one by one. Count your many blessing see what God has done.” This is a good practice but it only relates to actions we believe God has done in effect of our daily lives. We get a new job. God’s blessing. Paid all our monthly bills. God’s blessing. Food to eat. God’s blessing. Home to live in. God’s blessing. Clothes. God’s blessing. These are certainly blessings we desire in our lives. But, more importantly our Heavenly Father has blessed us with ALL SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS IN HEAVENLY IN CHRIST. There are blessings which are only available IN CHRIST.
What does this mean, “In Christ”? This term is used several times in the New Testament. 2 Corinthians 5:17: “IF any man is IN CHRIST he is a new creature”. 1 Corinthians 3:1: “And I brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes IN CHRIST.”
What is a spiritual blessing in comparison to a natural one?
Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all that you shall eat, drink and wear are added to your life. Take no thought for such necessities. Are these spiritual blessings or your Father knows what you need before we ask for them? Isn’t asking for them taking thought for them? Do we have to ask for spiritual blessings He has already blessed us with?
To receive from all spiritual blessings in heavenly we must do three things.
1. Believe they exist and are received only by your faith in God’s promise.
2. Confess (count) you have them in spirit (heavenly) before you have them in life.
3. Expect to see your life changing because you now have them.
In summary. God HAS BLESSED you with every spiritual blessing” in Christ”. If you are “in Christ” believe and confess you have received those blessings. Live each day with expectation of God’s promises being fulfilled in your life.
